I do not know when it began, but I remember very clearly the first moment I noticed it, about two weeks ago. When I came home from work and we embraced, my head failed to rest against his chest and instead struck the icy metal buckle of his leather belt. I waited for him to clasp my back and pull me close, but instead he began to stroke my hair gently. I sensed that something was wrong. We were standing directly opposite the full-length mirror mounted on the wall in the hallway. My wavy blond hair cut to chin length barely a month earlier was now nearly down to my waist. Beside his imposing body, I looked pale, thin, and fragile. And short. I smiled, remembering how short I always felt beside him. There was nothing to worry about, I told myself....
