This is the true story of a British woman who went  to Turkey on a one-year teaching contract and stayed for half a century. Throughout that time she wrote hundreds of pages of letters and diaries, which became the basis for this book.  Her varied experiences, and the challenges she has faced as a teacher, traveller, girlfriend,  wife, and mother, are vividly described,  creating a fascinating insight into  Turkish culture and its development.
