Our Almighty Lord says in His Holy Book, ‘Obey Allah and obey the Messenger’ (Nisâ 4/59). The Holy Qur'an declares that the Prophet was given ‘knowledge and wisdom’. In the commentaries, knowledge is explained as the Qur'an, and wisdom as the Sunnah.
Once we have titled our study ‘The Commandments and Prohibitions in the Qur'an', it has now become necessary to make a compilation titled ‘Commandments and Prohibitions in the Hadiths’ within the framework of wisdom / sunnah.
In this study, we have presented a group of hadiths which include the commandments and prohibitions of the Blessed Prophet (Pbuh), who was sent as a mercy to the worlds, in the form of the phrases ‘commanded’ and ‘forbidden’. Despite the breadth of the subject, considering the volume of our book, the authentic hadiths in the Kutub-u Sitte have been taken as basis.
This book does not include all the hadiths of the Messenger of Allah (pbuh) which contain commands and prohibitions. There are many hadiths which contain similar statements on the same topic, but I have paid attention to chose just one or two of them that I deem necessary to include in this work.
