The Process of Writing: Paragraph to Essay

The Process of Writing: Paragraph to Essay is intended as a guide and course book for students of intermediate to upper intermediate students of English teaching departments where writing or composition classes are compulsory as part of four skills in ELTs and in EFLs. It is a compilation of several lecture notes which have been used over 10 years in writing classes. The materials have been carefully chosen, revised and reorganized according to the real needs of the students across the curriculum.
This book is the product of a need to bring several books in the field of writing into a whole to save time and to contribute to the economy of learners who may find it difficult to access to the materials. It is also designed to meet the requirements of The Common European Framework for Learning Languages.
My multi- national and multi- cultural students both at Gazi University in Turkey and Ahmet Yassawi International Kazakh Turkish University in Kazakhstan made me feel the need to collect and design the materials after being advised by the students how the course could be more fruitful. They wanted to be more active in the classroom learning from their own mistakes. Therefore, several authentic materials written by students have been provided for them to use in a learner centered environment.
Chapter one of this book is devoted to what a paragraph and elements of a paragraph are.
Chapter two details the methods of paragraph developments.
Chapter three gives in full details of what an essay is; expository essay, argumentative and opinion essay.
Having studied the book, the learners are expected to expand their techniques and strategies to writing an essay and further to pave the ways to writing articles for scientific journals.
We are in the hope that this compilation may help our students to improve their writing skills.
