Un amanecer, muy cerca de la Navidad de 2018, la cabeza de la joven Sarah Evans aparece en medio de una calle concurrida de San Francisco. La ciudad se despierta con horror y la policía encuentra el resto del cuerpo en casa de la víctima: desnudo, arrodillado y con los brazos amarrados a las paredes. El inspector William Parker, especialista en asesinos en serie, lleva un tiempo alejado de sus funciones y retirado del cuerpo tras un caso particularmente traumático, pero la teniente Watson está convencida de que solo él puede ayudarla a desentrañar el misterio de esta muerte macabra. Tras muchas dudas, Parker decide aparcar sus viejos temores y se lanza de lleno a una investigación que cambiará todo lo que creía saber sobre aquel viejo caso que inútilmente había intentado olvidar.

Mientras tanto, el experiodista valenciano Fernando Fons, llegado recientemente a San Francisco tras huir de un trágico reencuentro, sigue con interés la búsqueda del asesino al que la prensa ha apodado «el Verdugo». Así, Parker y Fons se embarcarán por separado en una carrera hacia el peligro, acercándose poco a poco el uno al otro y aproximándose también a un secreto que muchos intentan proteger a toda costa.

Early one morning, close to Christmas 2018, young Sarah Evans' head is found in the middle of a busy San Francisco street. The city wakes up in horror, and the police find the rest of the body at the victim's house: naked, kneeling, with her arms strapped to the wall. Inspector William Parker, specialized in serial killers, has been away from his position for some time now, retired from the force after a particularly traumatic case. But Lieutenant Watson is convinced only he can help her unravel the mystery behind this macabre death. After much doubt, Parker decides to put his old fears aside and throws himself fully into an investigation that will change everything he thought he knew about that old case he had so pointlessly tried to forget.

Meanwhile, Valencian ex-journalist Fernando Fons—recently arrived in San Francisco and running from a tragic reunion—is interested in following the hunt for the killer, whom the press has nicknamed “The Executioner.” And so, Parker and Fons embark, each on their own, in a race towards danger, gradually approaching one another and a secret many are trying to protect at all costs.
